Job Summary
The Procurement Officer is responsible for executing field procurement, supplier engagement and market intelligence activities within assigned locations (Kano and Sagamu). The role sources agro-commodities such as cashew, soybeans, sesame, maize, shea nut, and other relevant agricultural commodities (within approved price and quality parameters), engages suppliers, aggregators and buying agents, gathers market price and availability information, coordinates loading and deliveries, liaises with Quality Control on inspection and acceptance, tracks contracted versus delivered volumes, and submits daily procurement reports, in support of the Procurement Supervisor and the wider procurement function.
Job Details
1. Sourcing within Approved Price and Quality Parameters
•Source commodities from farmers, aggregators and suppliers strictly within approved price bands and quality/grading specifications.
•Identify and flag off-specification offers or pricing deviations, escalating exceptions beyond approved limits to the Procurement Supervisor.
2. Supplier, Aggregator and Buying Agent Engagement
•Engage and maintain productive working relationships with suppliers, aggregators and buying agents within the assigned location.
•Communicate buying requirements, price updates and quality standards clearly to the supply base to sustain a reliable pipeline.
3. Market Intelligence and Price Monitoring
•Collect and report market price trends, commodity availability and competitor buying activity within the assigned location.
•Provide timely, accurate market intelligence to support pricing and buying decisions.
4. Loading and Supplier Delivery Coordination
•Coordinate loading schedules with suppliers, transporters and logistics/warehouse teams to ensure timely delivery of purchased commodities.
•Monitor in-transit deliveries and promptly resolve loading or dispatch issues.
5.Quality Control Liaison
•Liaise with the Quality Control team to ensure timely inspection, grading and acceptance of purchased commodities.
•Follow up on rejected or queried consignments to ensure prompt resolution with suppliers.
6. Contracted and Delivered Volume Tracking
•Maintain accurate records of contracted quantities against actual volumes delivered per supplier and location.
•Promptly escalate shortfalls, delays or over-deliveries to the Procurement Supervisor.
7. Daily Procurement Reporting
•Prepare and submit accurate daily reports covering purchases, prices, volumes, supplier engagement and market observations.
•Ensure reports are submitted within the required timeline to support supervisory review and decision-making.
Requirements
- HND/B.Sc. in any discipline; a background in Agriculture, Agribusiness, Business Administration, or a related field is an advantage.
- Relevant professional certification is an added advantage.
- Familiarity with commodity buying and grading practices, particularly for agro-commodities, is an advantage.
- Minimum of 1-3 years' experience in commodity procurement, supplier management, market dynamics, quality requirements and the respective value chains.
- Prior experience working within the assigned location (Kano or Sagamu) is an advantage.
